At an elevation of 3000 to 5000 feet, the Tupungato Valley offers many different microclimates and is today recognized as Mendoza’s premier wine growing region. For decades, Familia Rutini’s wines have been harbingers of quality in Argentina. In 1994, Nicolas Catena, the pioneering owner of Bodegas Esmeralda, became a partner with Don Rodolfo Reina Rutini, the grandson of Don Felipe Rutini –founding father of the winery and one of Argentina’s pioneers into winemaking in the 19th century. The winery has undergone substantial modernization and the vineyards have benefited from Catena’s outstanding vineyard management team.
With 3 million liters of stainless steel tank capacity; 1.4 million in oak casks; 5.6 million in epxy-lind concrete tanks and 600,000 liters in French and American oak barrels (225 liter) one of the most impressive top quality wine producers in Argentina.
Owner of a "state of the art" facility, the winery was completely renewed during the 90’s in its technology, but keeps the original architecture and remains true to its heritage.
