When Leoncio Arizu first came to the Lujan de Cuyo region of Mendoza in the middle of the 19th Century, he immediately identified the potential of his adopted land to produce magnificent wine. The vineyards and mountains of his native Navarra had been left far behind, but cheered by the majestic vista of the Andes, his spirit and ambition soared. With plants brought from Europe, Don Leoncio established vineyards in la Puntilla and Carrodilla, and thus laid the foundation of a family business that would eventually become Luigi Bosca.

The different varietals harvested on the Luigi Bosca properties, were brought from Europe around 1890. As a result, today’s vines are the result of very careful selection from this old stock which underwent a slow process of acclimatization to its new home. During this period it suffered many positive crosses and mutations that have reinforced its unique character. Each bottle of Luigi Bosca wine is born in privileged conditions. Their cradle is the Vistalba Valley with its pronounced incline, ideal aeration and superb drainage, enjoying cold Spring afternoons, hot Summer days with cool nights, premature frost in Autumn and severe winter.

At the start of the 20th century the Arizu family purchased the installations of an important flour mill so as to convert it to use as a winery. Today the extensive subterranean tunnels used to bring water from the Mendoza river to operate the water-mill are now used as dark cellars where wine reposes, achieving its optimum maturation. Since the end of the 19th century, the Arizu family has devoted much effort to crossing different varietals which have given their vineyards a personal and unique character. This mix of soil, climate and viticulture has made the Luigi Bosca terroir the reason for its excellence.

Since vines were first cultivated in Vistalba, viticulturists have cultivated a grape called Malbec Verdot. In Finca Los Nobles we have determined that in those days vineyards were a mix of Malbec and, (to a lesser degree), Petit Verdot, plus some which possessed the characteristics of both. We have continued to respect these vineyards which express the true character of the region.

FINCA LOS NOBLES
Cabernet-Bouchet

  • Winemaker’s Notes:
    "Gold Medal - Vinandino 2003"

THE CABERNET PROVIDES THE WINE TYPICAL AROMAS OF BLACKBERRY, GREEN PEPPER, CHARACTER AND CONCENTRATED TANNINS. THE BOUCHET SOFTNESS, ROUNDNESS, SWEETNESS AND AROMAS OF BERRIES.

Years ago when the harvest was good in Vistalba, a red wine called Cabernet Bouchet was made from the existing vineyard. It was a powerful wine with great body and potential to age for many years. Today this vineyard, descended from that, offers both Cabernet Sauvignon and Bouchet, which is probably a Cabernet mutation. It is believed that it was planted to act as an insurance against excess cold and humidity, due to its superior resistance.
The characteristic thick dark blue skin of the Cabernet Sauvignon and the aroma of blackcurrant, plus the finer skin and berry aromas of the Bouchet characterize this wine from the Los Nobles property.

FINCA LOS NOBLES
Chardonnay

  • Winemaker’s Notes:
ONE CAN DETECT THE AROMAS OF TROPICAL FRUIT, SUCH AS PINEAPPLES, MANGO, HONEY AND A TOUCH OF VANILLA.

The Chardonnay grapes of "Finca Los Nobles" acquire great complexity, structure and personality from the chalky soil. The exuberant strength of the aromas comes from the granite.
